JFGH Continues Expansion in Northern Virginia

December 03, 2010

The Jewish Foundation for Group Homes (JFGH) purchased a house today that will open in 2011 as the 23rd home for individuals with disabilities in the Greater Washington DC area, and the third in Northern Virginia.

JFGH opened its first Northern Virginia home, the Lawrence Alan Stempler/ David S. Stone Home in 1998 to residents who had been on JFGH’s waiting list for several years.  The following year JFGH opened the Marge and Chuck Levin Home just a short distance from its first Northern Virginia home in Reston.  The third and newest home, The Barbara Brown and Robert Berish Home is located in Annandale, VA.

JFGH will hold a dedication ceremony for its new home in spring 2011. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

In addition to opening another home in Northern Virginia, JFGH will also open a MOSTÔ (Meaningful Opportunities for Successful Transitions) program in Fairfax County in early 2011.  This program is a one year individualized program designed to facilitate a smooth transition into the adult community for individuals with disabilities. MOSTÔ enables each participant to focus on improving independent living skills by identifying and working on goals that address the ability to take care of personal needs, participate fully within the community, and identify and engage in vocational planning and preparation.

JFGH is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the independence, dignity, choice, and community inclusion of all individuals with disabilities without regard for religious, ethnic, racial, or national origin. Since its inception in 1982, the agency has grown to provide support to more than 180 individuals at more than 60 sites throughout the Washington DC Metropolitan area.

For more information about JFGH’s residential or MOSTÔ programs or to set up interviews please contact Katie Carroll, Communications Associate.
