2011 Spring Appeal
Dear Friend, The residents of JFGH appreciate the generosity of our friends, benefactors and government partners. However, never ones to rest on our accomplishments, we are ever mindful of the many ongoing needs that are essential to ensuring our continuing as a premier provider of supports for individuals with disabilities in the Greater Washington Metropolitan area. The very core of JFGH’s mission is dedicated to the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to live independently within the fabric of their community with dignity, personal choice, and respect- regardless of their ability. Since our inception nearly 30 years ago, we have grown to support 180 individuals and their families at more than 70 sites throughout the area via a myriad of service delivery models. Some participants reside in a JFGH home, others live in their own apartments and receive drop-in services, a growing number live in homes that they or their family own or rent, while others are participating for a year in JFGH’s innovative Sally and Robert Goldberg Maryland-MOST™ Program (Meaningful Opportunities for Successful Transitions) transitioning from school to the adult community. While JFGH is esteemed locally, nationally and internationally as a leading provider of the highest quality of supports offered through our innovative programming, it is more than just the individuals we support who are the beneficiaries of our services; our reach spans across entire families and communities. Being a part of JFGH allows parents, siblings, grandparents, and friends and neighbors the reassurance and comfort needed to know that their loved one is leading a safe and self-sufficient life. This year, JFGH has been enormously grateful to be the recipient of several extraordinary acts of kindness. Through the generosity of benefactors Barbara Brown, Esq. and Robert Berish, M.D. we recently dedicated our 23rd home, The Barbara Brown and Robert Berish Home in Annandale, Va. In collaboration with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, Maryland, Inc., all 20 Montgomery County homes were “weatherized.” In a partnership between one of our resident’s families and funds from the State of Maryland, we constructed an accessible extension to the Ryna and Melvin Cohen Home to accommodate aging residents. We are truly blessed that loyal donors have continued to honor their multi-year pledges for JFGH’s Campaign for the Future. With all these accomplishments, there are always more needs waiting for us to address. Our residents are aging and/or developing medical conditions that require attention and our homes have escalating maintenance needs. Therefore, we must reach out to you and members of our devoted community for the financial help we need to continue to meet the expectations of our residents and their families who have entrusted their loved-ones’ support to us. You will help us perpetuate the trust and security that JFGH offers our residents and their families by contributing to JFGH in honor of your own family members and their health, happiness and independent futures. Please be assured that all donations will go a long way towards helping our residents and our strength as an organization. Vivian G. Bass CEO P.S. Did you know that JFGH is one of only 41 organizations nationwide to receive Charity Navigator’s Top 4-Star rating for 9 consecutive years?
