Volunteer FAQs

Why should I be a JFGH volunteer?
The experience of volunteering at JFGH can be very rewarding for both the volunteer and the resident. Friendships made can last a lifetime. Volunteering is a win-win situation; what could be better?!?!

What kinds of things can I do as a JFGH volunteer?
There are endless opportunities for getting involved with JFGH. Some of the activities you can plan to do together include:

  1. Going on picnics
  2. Planting gardens
  3. Baking cookies
  4. Making and eating meals
  5. Leading a sing-a-long
  6. Swimming or hiking
  7. Bowling or mini-golf
  8. Watching a sports event or concert
  9. Building a sukkah
  10. Lighting Chanukah candles
  11. Hosting a BBQ
  12. Making cards and other arts and crafts projects

What if I have no experience with people with disabilities?
The friendly atmosphere of the homes will make you feel comfortable, even if you have no past experience with people with disabilities. Volunteering with JFGH will open your mind and heart to all sorts of interesting and amazing people. Before you begin to volunteer you can watch a video about JFGH, highlighting a variety of residents, or attend an orientation about working with people with disabilities (on an individual or a group basis).

How do I get involved?
