Builder’s Ball
JFGH was among the 4
charities selected to be
recipients of the proceeds from
the biennial event. The event
was held at The National
Building Museum. President
Dennis Speisman and CEO Vivian
Bass accepted the check on
behalf of JFGH.

Jewish Week
- 10/28/08 – JFGH
raises $1.2 million at the 25th
Annual Gala
The 25th Annual Gala was chaired
by Heidi and Michael Brodsky,
Jill and Rob Granader, and Tammy
and Cliff Mendelson. More than
1,450 were attendance as JFGH
honored Jack Kay with the S.
Robert Cohen Humanitarian Award,
watched the JFGH video “JFGH:
The Power of Love,” and
entertained by the hit songs
from Grammy winner, Huey Lewis
and the News.
- 10/28/08 – Huey
Lewis and the News visit the
Gerry and Howard Polinger Home.
- 9/28/08 – JFGH and
Hebrew Home hit a “Home Run.”
JFGH teamed up again
with the Hebrew Home of Greater
Washington for the Home Run 10K,
5K race and fun run. More than
500 runners came out in spite of
the early morning rain.
Congratulations to all those
that ran the race. Thank you to
all the sponsors and volunteers
who helped make the event a
success.

program opens doors
Meaningful
Opportunities for Successful
Transitions (MOST), a program
for individuals with
disabilities transitioning from
school to a placement at an
established vocational or day
program, welcomed its first
three participants
- 6/25/08 - Home Run -
Sunday morning, September 28th. Join
the fun and support JFGH by
participating in a 10k, 5k or 'fun
run' starting at Federal Plaza on
East Jefferson Street in Rockville.
This is JFGH's fourth year teaming
up with the Hebrew Home of Greater
Washington to raise funds through

2008 Builder's Ball
JFGH has been selected as a
beneficiary of the 2008
Builders’ Ball (more), which is
scheduled to take place November
8th at the National Building
Museum.
- 1/31/08 - Home donated to
JFGH
JFGH expands its group home
program with a very generous donation
from Janet and Irving Torchinsky,
who have donated their home to JFGH.
Accessibility modifications to the
Silver Spring home are being planned,
with its dedication anticipated
in early fall. The home will accommodate
three new JFGH residents.
- 1/8/08 - JFGH receives $1
million pledge from The Robert
P. and Arlene R. Kogod Family Foundation.
The funds are in support of JFGH’s
Capital Campaign to fund our new
administrative offices and day activity
program.

- 12/17/07 - Cliff Mendelson joins JFGH BoD
JFGH welcomes Cliff Mendelson to the Board of Directors. Mr. Mendelson served as co-Chair of the 2007
Gala, helping to make it a tremendous success. He is also active in the Daniel Heumann Fund for Spinal
Cord Research and the Quest for the Cure - A Spinal Cord Research Coalition.
Mr. Mendelson is a Senior Managing Director in the Structured Finance Group at Transwestern.
- 12/11/07 - JFGH featured on Channel 4 NBC News
Tune in to Channel 4 NBC News on 12/14 at 6
am or 6 pm to see a special feature
on JFGH and how JFGH residents and
volunteers celebrate Hanukkah together.
A Channel 4 NBC News crew visited
the Sam & Minnie Feldman Home on
the first night of Hanukkah where
a mother and daughter volunteer
team joined the residents to make
latkes, decorate the home, light
the first candle, sing blessings
and share dinner. The news crew
interviewed JFGH staff about what
services we provide and offered
everyone a chance to be interviewed
for the feature.
The feature is part of a series
called "12 Days of Giving" is posted
at
www.nbc4.com. Select 'top
video' tab on the home page and
scroll down the "12 Days of Giving"
to view the video.
Many volunteers have come forth
to share Hanukkah with JFGH residents,
participating in a total of 44 different
Hanukkah celebrations! Volunteers
visited each of our 20 homes. Residents
were also invited to a wide variety
of community and congregational
events. Thank you to all who opened
your hearts and helped light the
lights of Hanukkah!
- 12/11/07 - Donation received
for new furnace. The Gerry and Howard
Polinger Home will have a new furnace
this winter thanks to a very generous
online donation. The need for a
new furnace was highlighted as a
‘wish list’ item on our web site’s
Support
page. The current furnace at the
Gerry and Howard Polinger Home is
still in working order, but might
not make it through the winter.

for responding to this pressing
need. And thank you to all our donors
who are warming hearts and homes
with your generosity and dedication
to JFGH’s mission!
