Meet Our Staff
Carol
Carol has been the Senior Counselor at the Bender Group
Home for a little over a year. In that short period of time,
she has brought so many positive changes to the Group Home.
To begin with, all of the cholesterol levels of everyone in
the home has gone down this past year. Carol has started
bringing vegetables from her garden and incorporated them
into the residents’ meals.
In addition, Carol has started a garden in pots on the back
deck of the home. When the garden was first planted she ran
a contest for which resident could spot the first bean or
tomato. It was a lot of fun and educational for all the
residents.
In addition to these healthy eating initiatives, Carol made
sure that the residents have new exercise equipment to
continue their healthy trends. The Bender Group Home now has
two state-of-the-art machines for the residents to use for
exercise.
Rosemary
Rosemary, JFGH’s Registered Nurse, joined the JFGH team
after working in acute care settings for 14 years, most
recently at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC. She
started part-time as a delegating nurse for four of the
group homes and became enamored with the DD population. She
was hired as our Nurse Administrator in December 2007.
Together with a team of four nurses, she works to ensure the
health and stability of our 150 residents. Rosemary makes it
a point to always be available to the administration, direct
care staff and residents. She often has gone with residents
for medical appointments where she feels she could serve as
a medical liaison with doctors. Rosemary has said that she
chooses to do this as it allows her to spend one on one time
with the residents helping to build a trusting relationship
with them as they face medical issues. Her dedication to the
health of the residents has her assisting two residents from
Feldman Group Home in attendance at Weight Watchers and
exercising with them weekly.
Rosemary has also been very active in the training and
education of our direct care staff. She has brought in
specialists on autism and cerebral palsy and plans to offer
more training on mental health and oral hygiene in the
upcoming year.
Although new to the developmental disability community,
Rosemary’s enthusiasm and dedication to providing
outstanding nursing care for our residents exemplifies
JFGH’s commitment to our residents.
