Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the heart of JFGH.
They enrich the lives of individuals that JFGH serves and in the process, find their own lives enriched as well.

There are many ways for volunteers to become involved with JFGH.

Administrative
Help out as an administrative volunteer by coming into our headquarters on a regular basis or as needed. We can use help with data input, mailings, filing, organization, etc.

We also need volunteers to help out with our events. We need people to help with: invitations and mailings, registration, set-up, decorations, ticket collectors, etc.

Holidays
Celebrating Shabbat or a holiday with a group home is a truly meaningful and enjoyable experience for both the volunteers and the residents. Join our residents for Shabbat dinner or celebrate a holiday with a group home.

Volunteers can blow a shofar in a home, help build and decorate a sukkah, teach residents how to shake a lulav and etrog, light channukah candles, plant trees for Tu B’shvat or lead/participate in a Tu B’shvat seder, bake hamantashen, deliver mishloach manot to the group homes, hold or lead a Passover seder, cook a holiday meal, sing holiday songs, or bring residents to community celebrations.

To volunteer for Shabbat or a holiday, click here or call 301-984-3839.

Special Friend
Become a special friend and develop a relationship with one resident with whom you will spend time together in activities of mutual interest. As a special friend you can spend time in your resident’s home as well as take them on excursions throughout the community. To truly develop a relationship, it is best if special friends get together with their resident on a monthly basis.
